History
The cave and brewery were built around 1865/6 and by 1881 was producing 2,000 barrels of the frothy good stuff a year and was located near Colborne and Palace Streets. The Funk brewery folded in 1901 and soon all traces of the former brewery were erased by time and the ever changing environment of the city renewing itself.
History Found on Hollow Hills.
Pre-Trip
We initially found funk while searching for an entrance to Stahlmann's Cellars... Kind of cool in my opinion to find something unrelated to what your actually looking for. I think its whats fun about exploring yourself and doing the work rather than asking where and or how to get in or even have someone show you..
Unfortunately I didn't know what the cave was called. After asking around I found out what it was called. Then I was happy!
The Trip
This night started out differently than most of our trips. Originally me, Myth, Brute, AquaSlayer, TJ, and Lush Fuschia, and Dr. Magnus were going to meet up and do a two team outing at a non-disclosed place, but from the gecko nothing went right. We were unable to get a hold of Brute & AquaSlayer, TJ passed out, Dr. Magnus went to the casino and made $60. So me and Myth biked over to Lush's house to meetup with her.

On the way Myth had said he knew where her house was, so I didnt bother asking for the exact address. On the way his chain on the bike locked up and he ended up flipping over the bike onto University NE right before Broadway just about getting my backup bike scrapped. He didnt end up too bad so we continued on. Then we got to where we thought her house was. Nope. So we wasted about 30 minutes biking around trying to remember where it was. Finally found it! Cool.

So again this is where we thought finally we can go! So we biked to downtown to catch a bus over to St. Paul. Nope. The bus driver wouldnt take 3 bikes even thought it was for the most part empty considering it was 12:08am... So Myth just said he would Light Rail it part of the way and we would meet him at the Wabasha Bridge. Ok so that works out at we end up meeting at about 1am. At this point we've been somewhat discouraged about what we wanted to initially do and scrapped that mission around 3:00am.

After deciding what to do, I mentioned well im not gonna waste 4 hours of my life and do nothing. So I suggested to Myth and Lush that we go explore Funk since I had been meaning to go do it for awhile. They were down.
So we biked over to West 7th and proceeded through our normal entrance to that area. If you've explored that area you probably know what I am talking about.

(Above: ToXiC & Myth seeing if Myth will fit up the hole. Nope, didnt happen.)
After entering we crawled through an old partially Sandstone partially old Rock Brick entrance into the Funk Brewery Cave. I had been here once before on the way to Stahlmanns. Myth and Lush had not. So it was a fun trip.
Most of Funk was collapsed in from the construction of new Homes above. What remained was just one corridor. After thoroughly exploring it we decided there wasnt much more to do.
After reading a couple other postings about Funk, theres reason to go back since supposedly a 2nd and more extensive sublevel exists. Guess we'll be going back!
Onto The Funk Brewery Cave #2 (Coming Soon)
