Originally constructed in 1877. Abbot hospital was founded through Dr. Amos Abbott after moving here due to large demand for Medical practitioners. The current building was built in 1910.
The mill was shut down in 1965, along with eight other of the oldest mills operated by General Mills, and left in disuse.

Gopher Munitions Plant

During World War ll, the US Government acquired 13,000 acres of farmland to construct & build the Gopher Munitions Plant.

GTA Headhouse

Built in 1931, it is the sole remaining reminder of the mill era in downtown St. Paul. Registered on the NHS its history lies in it being part of the first farmer-owned grain elevator cooperative in the US.
In 1879, after five years of secret planning, Charles Alfred Pillsbury announced to the public that he would build the largest and most advanced mill the world had ever seen.
